Rotary TV Bingo celebrates 15 years of calling your numbers
Ed. note: Tonight, while many sports fans will be tuned in to the first game of the World Series, between the Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals, hundreds of others on cable in south Muskoka will be watching Rotary TV Bingo. It’s a great community fundraiser for the Gravenhurst and Bracebridge service clubs.
Barb McCabe, Rotarian
GRAVENHURST/BRACEBRIDGE - It all started back in September 1998.
An energetic and forward-thinking Rotarian, Gerry Flaherty, researched a new idea for a fundraiser for the Gravenhurst Rotary Club. After lots of fact finding TV Bingo was created.
With the assistance of all the Gravenhurst Rotarians and our fellow Rotarians in the Bracebridge Rotary Club this ongoing fun event has poured over $3 million back into our communities.
Another Rotarian who has spent endless hours to make this project the success that it is and will be is Gary Rolston. His leadership has been invaluable.
Bingo cards can be purchased at 21 locations in Gravenhurst and Bracebridge.
Every Wednesday night starting at 7 pm on TVCogeco you will see this being broadcast with Rotarians doing the calling, hosting, answering phones, and then, the very best part…..delivering the winnings to families in our areas.
We are so fortunate to have loyal players not only in their own homes but also in groups at the Gravenhurst Legion, Leisure World, Granite Ridge and The Manor. We know of one daughter who travels from out of town to play Bingo with her mother. Should you get together with neighbours please call the station and let us know and we would very much like to recognize you on air.
The cooperation and support extended by TVCogeco has been amazing over the years enabling our Rotary Club to present a fun hour and to create lots of excitement to the many winners each week. Thank you so very much for playing over the years and we look forward to continuing to many many years to come.
