Alexis Baro blows roof off Peter’s Players
GRAVENHURST – One of Canada’s top young trumpet players blew the roof off the Peter’s Players club here Saturday night.
Alexis Baro, a Cuban, Caribbean, funk, jazz, New Orleans, hip-hop, rap-influenced player from Toronto entertained an almost full house of 80 or so, with a number of pieces from his three CDs including his latest one, Blue Skin.
With Stan Fomin on keys, Jeff King on tenor, Yoser Rodriquez on electric standup bass, and a smashing but tasteful Amed Mitchell on drums, the quintet served a sizzling two hours of performance and showmanship befitting Muskoka’s premier musical venue.
There were original Baro songs that made you want to Grab Your Horn and Dance with Mr. Mom.
Baro’s musical tastes were in high order as could be told by the audience who really dug the show – and by the number of CDs sold.
He enjoyed it himself, asking to come back.
