Crooks beware – cops out to get you this week with pro-active programs
ORILLIA – The OPP say the best defence is offence.
So, criminals beware – this is Crime Prevention Week across Ontario and the cops are out to get you more than ever.
The week of November 3-9, 2013 has been designated Crime Prevention week in Ontario. And the Ontario Provincial Police say they are “proud to highlight crime prevention initiatives that have been successfully implemented by our detachments across the province.”
These programs have been successful due to the ongoing support and participation of our various community stakeholders, police say in a news release Monday.
“Our focus this year are those initiatives where the police engage community partners to reduce crime and promote community safety.”
The OPP say they recognize that “community engagement and strong partnerships are essential components to an effective crime prevention and reduction strategy.”
The OPP, Crime Prevention Section, Field Support Bureau in conjunction with the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services will be promoting five distinct program areas throughout the week.
Monday November 4 – “Intelligence Led Policing – Crime Abatement Strategy”
Tuesday November5 – “Lock it or Lose it”
Wednesday November 6 – “Knowledge, Issues, Decisions and Supports (KIDS) Program”
Thursday November 7 – “Mental Health – Crisis Intervention Training”
Friday November 8 – “Crime Stoppers”
“It is essential that police and the community continue to work together to develop strategies that support our collective goal of preventing crime and victimization. We remain committed to crime suppression in support of the OPP’s vision of Safe Communities – A Secure Ontario.” said OPP Commissioner Chris Lewis.
