Gravenhurst invites public to pre-budget meetings Jan. 9-14

GRAVENHURST – Council here is looking for public input on its 2014 budget at town hall.

Each new year council and staff development a budget – and invite residents to comment on it and offer suggestions on how they want their tax dollars spent.

Council sets priorities and direction for projects and needs of the community for the upcoming year, says a new year’s news release Thursday.

They say that with an annual levy of $10 million, careful consideration and input is required.

Factors such a legislative requirements, capital projects and fiscal responsibility are all considered within this comprehensive process.

Residents are invited to attend any of the scheduled budget deliberation meetings taking place throughout January:

January 9 1:00 to    5:00 pm Infrastructure, Parks, Community   Services
January 10 2:00 to    4:00 pm Development Services, Cultural   Services
January 13 1:00 to    5:00 pm Fire Services, Economic   Development, Corporate Services, Library
January 14 1:00 to    5:00 pm Capital Program

All meetings will be hosted at the Town Hall in the Council Chamber located at 5 Pineridge Gate, Gravenhurst.

“I’m looking forward to working with all of Council, and staff and hearing from residents throughout the 2014 budget process,” said Mayor Paisley Donaldson. “We encourage all to attend the sessions and hope you find them to be transparent, educational and informative about where tax dollars are spent.”

Council encourages residents to get involved and stay informed of your municipal government.

They urge everyone to attend any one of the four budget deliberation meetings, and then provide any further thoughts at the February 1, council meeting.

The budget is expected to be finalized and ready for adoption by council by the end of February 2014.
