$500,000 Fednor grant for Parry Sound airport/industrial park infrastructure
PARRY SOUND – Like Huntsville, Parry Sound continues to benefit from its easy friendship, strong ties and financial partnerships with the federal government.
The two towns appear to benefit from the close working relationships with MP Tony Clement and especially his Consverative government’s Fednor granting agency.
Wednesday, on behalf of FedNor Minister Greg Rickford, Clement announced another government of Canada investment to help strengthen the economic potential of the ParrySoundAreaMunicipalAirport, and to “create jobs, growth and ensure sustainable long-term prosperity in the region.”
FedNor funding of $496,650 will be used to extend road, water, sewer, hydro and fire suppression services at the airport and industrial park, says a federal government news release.
“This investment will help meet the immediate and growing demand for fully serviced industrial land from small and medium-sized businesses looking to expand their operations or looking to get firmly established in the region.”
Identified as a regional priority, this strategic initiative is expected to attract approximately $4 million in private sector investment to the area and create 30 full-time jobs within a two-year period, says the release.
“Business expansion at the ParrySoundAreaMunicipalAirport is set to take off and reach new heights with today’s announcement. With support from our Government, this initiative will propel further private sector development through shared infrastructure at the airport industrial park and allow for greater access to diverse aviation services, for the economic benefit of the whole region,” said the statement by Clement, who is also President of Treasury Board.
“Our government is proud to invest in infrastructure that will pave the way for business development and growth in Northern Ontario. We remain focused on providing the right environment for economic growth, through effective cooperation across all sectors, to keep Canadians working and to ensure the long-term prosperity of all our communities.”
“We are pleased and grateful for the Government of Canada’s continued investment through FedNor in our airport. This funding will allow us to expand the business park and bring new jobs to Seguin,” added Seguin Township Mayor David Conn, in the same release.
- Since 2006, the Government of Canada through FedNor, has invested nearly $1.5 million to support the development and growth of the ParrySoundAreaMunicipalAirport, helping to secure and leverage more than $6 million from private sector investors, create seven businesses and more than 55 new full-time permanent jobs.
- The funding announced today is provided through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program, which supports projects that promote sustainable community economic development, enhance business development and growth, and facilitate innovation throughout the region.
