House fire reveals grow-op in Huntsville
HUNTSVILLE — An overnight house fire last Friday has led to grow-op charges against a Huntsville man.
Police say that on Friday February 7th 2014 just before 4 a.m.on Muskoka Rd #3 North in Huntsville.
Firefighters found something they felt police would be interested in in the basement.
Once the house was safe to enter, OPP officers went into the basement and located marijuana plants growing.
Police located other items that led them to believe that a small growing operation was taking place in this apartment.
Officers spoke to the person who resided, identified as Kirk McMahon, 60, in the basement of the house.
He was arrested and charged with Producing a Schedule II substance (marijuana) and Possession of a Schedule II for the Purpose of Trafficking under the Controlled Drug Substances Act and will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Huntsville on March 5, 2014 to answer to these charges.
Meanwhile, the building owner was charged with failing to provide working smoke detectors by disconnecting them and having batteries in them that didn’t work.
