Hundreds enjoy Gravenhurst Winter Carnival Saturday

GRAVENHURST — Everyone who was there had a good time.

About 10 people jumped in Gull Lake for the polar bear dip.

What the Gravenhurst Winter Carnival lacked in quantity Saturday, they made up for it in quality.

While the numbers were down from other years – most blamed it on not being on the main street – there were hundreds of people young and old who enjoyed a day of fun.

And there’s still more Sunday.

Wet weather prevented the OPP and Fire hockey game at the Wharf Friday night, but that didn’t deter MP Tony Clement, MPP Norm Miller and Mayor Paisley Donaldson from kicking things off and continuing on to the arm wrestling at Boston Pizza.

Saturday morning at the Wharf the Lions served pancakes a dozen or more dogs dsahed, and three teams vied in run-a-bed races won by Home Building Centre’s team.

But hundreds enjoyed a day at GullLakeRotaryPark where the climbing hill was the biggest hit, along with some games.

And the polar bear dip, where just under 10 brave souls jumped in – one girl twice.

There’s a dance at the arena Saturday night and the demo derby.
