Parry Sound Community Futures receives $300,000 from FedNor for another year
PARRY SOUND — Community Futures in Parry Sound Wednesday received $300,000 for another year.
On behalf of FedNor Minister Greg Rickford, local MP Tony Clement today announced a Government of Canada investment to help create jobs and accelerate business development and growth in the Town of Parry Sound and communities throughout the area.
The FedNor investment will support the ongoing operations of the Parry Sound Area Community Business and Development Corporation (CB&DC) for a one-year period.
Specifically, the money support will enable this not-for profit, business-focused organization to support community economic development in the region and provide small and medium-sized enterprises with access to capital and business counselling services.
The Parry Sound Area CB&DC is one of 24 Community Futures Development Corporations funded by FedNor to serve Northern Ontario businesses and communities.
Community Futures Development Corporations are community-based, not-for-profit organizations run by volunteer boards and staffed by experienced business and economic development professionals.
This FedNor investment of $300,000 in the Parry Sound Area CB&DC complements measures announced as part the Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, which supports business development and growth, innovation, and skills training across Canada.
The funding announced today is provided through FedNor’s Community Futures Program, which supports projects that promote sustainable community economic development, enhance business development and growth, and facilitate innovation throughout the region.
“Our Government is proud to work with business and economic development organizations, such as the Parry Sound Area CB&DC, to strengthen and grow Northern Ontario’s economy. This investment will provide entrepreneurs throughout the area with continued access to the resources they need to succeed, create jobs and capitalize on emerging opportunities,” said Clement.
Bryan Tennant, chair of the Parry Sound Community Futures added: “We are very pleased with today’s announcement as it demonstrates confidence in our organization and the work we do to strengthen and grow the regional economy. This FedNor investment not only supports our ongoing operations, it also allows us to identify and respond to the needs of the businesses and communities we serve.”
