Hekkla 911 caller charged with mischief

HEKKLA  —  A rural woman who kept dialing 911 without an emergency has been charged with public mischief.

Police say that throughout the early morning hours of Monday March 24, 2014, the Huntsville  OPP communications centre received numerous calls using 911 from a resident in Hekkla, which is located just west of the town of Huntsville.

Christina Tamm, 53, of Hekkla, had been calling the communications centre using 911 and did not have an emergency that would constitute the usage of the emergency number.

She was eventually arrested and has since been charged with Public Mischief under the Criminal Code of Canada.  She will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Huntsville on April 9, 2014 to answer to her charges.

Police remind the public that 911 is used to stop a crime, report a fire, save a life or in any situation where fire, police or ambulance assistance is required immediately. The misuse of 911 could prevent someone from getting the assistance that legitimately needs it.
