@ Gravenhurst Library supporting Daffodil Month for cancer care

GRAVENHURST – “Daffodil Month, held every April, is a national fundraising campaign of the Canadian Cancer Society. They are asking Canadians to reflect upon the thousands of people who are living with cancer and to remember loved ones lost to cancer. During Daffodil Month the Canadian Cancer Society encourages Canadians to do something special for those living with cancer or to contribute in some way to the fight against this disease.” www.cancer .ca.

The Gravenhurst Public Library has many great resources. These resources can help patrons coping with cancer related issues such as diet or information on holistic approaches.

The Lahey Clinic guide to cooking through cancer 100+ recipes for treatment and recovery, is a great resource for those who are looking for additional ways battle this disease. “Cooking through Cancer” is published by the LaheyClinicSophiaGordonCancerCenter and is intended to help cancer patients and their caregivers prepare meals that will help them through their treatment and can be enjoyed by all. The recipes are organized so the reader can easily find meals to help alleviate specific symptoms, and offers healthy and delicious recipes, which can help cancer patients, assert control over an important aspect of their life and health.

Many alternative therapies are available to everyone including some of the methods lined out in the book Cancer : 50 essential things to do by Greg Anderson. Greg is a cancer survivor who has written an inspiring, action-oriented roadmap for those who choose to adopt a stance of hope and take charge of their diagnosis.

Support the girls : bra art for breast health is a fun way that the West Parry Sound Health Care Foundation thought of fundraise for a much needed new mammogram machine. This book is filled with fantastic submissions of “bra art” and anecdotes that will make you both laugh and cry.

Don’t forget that every Tuesday evening in April you have the opportunity to visit a fabulous new destination! England and Paris will be presented by Emily McKelvey on April 1st. On April 8 we will be visiting China with Peter Johnston. Or you could jet off to India with Marilyn and Martin Weber on April 15th. Helena Annala will be here on April 22 to present her adventures in Australia; Diane Harrop will take us on an exciting Russian river cruise on April 29.  Registration is NOT required. Destination oriented refreshments will be served.
