Murray feels the love at CIBC welcome home party to celebrate Sochi medal
BRACEBRIDE — Paralympian bronze medalist Graeme Murray got another warm welcome home from Sochi Friday morning as part of national CIBC ‘Welcome Home’ events this week.
CIBC branches Canada-wide are hosting local Paralympians by recognizing their global achievements and medals by bringing together athletes, coaches, friends, families and communities.
Athletes received personalized Paralympian welcome home banners and limited edition gold-plated coins created by CIBC and the Canadian Mint.
Murray, a three-time Paralympian athlete and five-time world championship competitor in sledge hockey thanked the couple of dozen people and staff who joined him for the celebration and chance to meet his many supporters.
He said he never really got into sledge hockey to win medals.
“It was just because I love hockey — and competition.”
And he gets to combine both at the top level in the world.
He also says he does it because “it’s fun.”
He says he’s already back in the gym training to win back the gold they won two games ago.
Meanwhile he continues his motivational speaking engagements and encouraging everyone — young and old — to get out and get active and set your own personal goals.
