Passed peacefully at SoldiersMemorialHospital in Orillia on Wednesday April 30, 2014 in his 68th year. 

John, loving father to Kent (Melissa) and Tammi Smith, will be sadly missed by his brother David (Beulah), and by his grandchildren Logan and Aiva. 

A memorial service will be held at the Doolittle Chapel of Carson Funeral Homes, 54 Coldwater St. E.Orillia, (705) 326-3595 on Saturday May 10, 2014 at 1 o’clock.  A legion service will be held at 12:45 pm. 

If desired memorial donations may be made to the Terry Fox foundation and would be appreciated by the family. (John was very proud to have been a close and personal police escort of Terry Fox on his Marathon of Hope run through Central Ontario and Muskoka, and continued to support Terry’s cause for decades after helping to raise funds for cancer research.)
