Lakeland power, Parry Sound Hydro to merge

PARRY SOUND-MUSKOKA — A powerful merger is about to take place.

The mayors of Parry Sound, Burk’s Falls, Sundridge, Magnetawan, Bracebridge and Huntsville will be in Burk’s Falls next Friday to announce the merger of Lakeland Holding Ltd and Parry Sound Hydro Corporation.

The shareholders of Lakeland Holding Ltd. (Lakeland) and Parry Sound Hydro Corporation (Parry Sound) will be finalizing the merger of their electricity distribution, generation and energy operations under Lakeland Holding Ltd. at a signing ceremony to be held May 23 at 1 p.m. at the Young at Heart Senior Centre, 136 Yonge Street in Burk’s Falls.

A Lakeland release says the merger will take effect July 1, and result in Lakeland Holding Ltd. with its subsidiaries Lakeland Power, Bracebridge Generation and Lakeland Energy/Networks being owned by the municipalities of Bracebridge, Huntsville, Parry Sound, Burk’s Falls, Sundridge and Magnetawan.

The mayors will take part in the signing ceremony.

Lakeland has just announced it is expanding its Internet services by offering a one gigabyte of space to customers who can afford the higher cost.
