Firefighters rescue man hanging by fingertips from 4th floor window fire

GRAVENHURST — Firefighters rescued a man hanging by his fingertips from outside his fourth-floor window this morning, when fire broke out in an apartment building.

The “dramatic scene,” says the Gravenhurst Fire Deparment in a release, unfolded Friday morning, just before 5 a.m., when a fire broke out in a Gravenhurst apartment building at 165 Old Muskoka Rd.

When firefighters got the call and responded to the building, they found the man “hanging from the window by his fingertips.”

Firefighters raised a ladder and successfully rescued the 31-year-old man, who was understandably upset and shaken but otherwise uninjured, and put out the fire.

The apartment building is on a hill running off the main street to the Muskoka Beach Road.
