Driver who hit tree on Fraserburg Road charged with impaired

BRACEBRIDGE — A driver who hit a tree on Fraserburg Road last Sunday, has been charged with impaired driving.

Police say a man has charged after the 8:40 a.m. accident.

Officers responded to the crash near Purbrook Road, in Bracebridge.

The lone vehicle had skidded sideways through the on-coming lane and crashed into a tree.

The male driver had been drinking and was found to have well over 80mg of alcohol in his blood.

He was not injured in the crash and luckily there were no other vehicles involved, say police.

The 56-year-old from Brampton was arrested and charged with:

CC 253(1)(b) Driving with More than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in Blood

CC 253(1)(a) Driving While Ability Impaired

He is to appear in Bracebridge court on June 10, to answer to his charges.

The OPP would like to remind everyone this long weekend if you plan on drinking, plan to not drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi, or stay overnight.

They say they rely on the public to report crime and impaired driving is a crime that should be treated no differently. If you suspect that someone is driving or about to drive impaired, call 9-1-1 and report it. If you see that someone is impaired and intends on driving, do not let them drive.
