$41,000 for Muskoka Tourism from FedNor
MUSKOKA — With summer here and visitors looking to enjoy the area, tourism promoters need to be well up to speed by now.
And one of the lead agencies, Muskoka Tourism, is slowly getting going.
To help, Industry Canada/FedNor Parry Sound–Muskoka MP Tony Clement has announced on behalf of the Honourable Greg Rickford, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources and Minister for the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario (FedNor) an investment to help “create jobs, enhance tourism and strengthen the economic outlook for the Muskoka region.
“The Harper Government investment of $41,000, through FedNor, will support the Muskoka Tourism Marketing Agency in its efforts to strengthen and grow to region’s tourism industry,” he says in a release Friday.
“Specifically, the investment will allow this not-for-profit organization to engage businesses and key stakeholders, and develop a regional strategy to enhance tourism and capitalize on growth opportunities throughout the area.”
Clement said “Muskoka region is recognized globally as a premier tourism destination and this investment will help maximize the economic potential of this important sector of the economy. Our government is proud to invest in the Muskoka Tourism Marketing Agency to help create jobs, growth and prosperity throughout the area.”
Jesse Hamilton, president of Muskoka Tourism Marketing Agency, said: “Today’s announcement clearly demonstrates confidence in our organization and the work we do to position the Muskoka region as a destination of choice for tourists from around the world. Tourism is a key economic driver for our region and I am very pleased that FedNor is investing to create a brighter economic future for the people, businesses and communities we serve.”
No word on whether they will use the money to improve the badly needed electronic sign at their Hwy. 11 office in Gravenhurst so tourists can actually see it.
The Muskoka Tourism Marketing Agency is a not-for-profit, membership organization that plays a leadership role in marketing the Muskoka region to potential visitors from around the world.
The investment announced today is provided through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program, which supports projects that promote sustainable community economic development, enhance business development and growth, and facilitate innovation throughout the region.
Since 2006, through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program, the Harper Government has invested more than $308 million in support of 1,500 projects. These investments have created more than 15,000 jobs throughout Northern Ontario. Of the total, more than $13 million was invested to support more than 110 tourism-related projects in the region.
