Elderberries give their regards to Broadway
GRAVENHURST - Give your regards to the Elderberries.
The choir performs the second of its summer weekend concerts Sunday afternoon at the legion.
After a great night Saturday, the 50 members return to the stage with more hits in their Give Our Regards to Broadway tribute.
The two-hour celebration of popular show tunes is a tour de force with music director Deb Tilson conducting and Carolyn Grant accompanying on piano (the two even play a duet of Somewhere Over the Rainbow and Together.
Other soloists include Debbie Provan in an Andrew Lloyd Web medley, Liz Mortimer and Robin Burns with an Oliver tune, Casandra Rowswell with My Fair Lady’s I Could Have Danced All Night, Pat Beecham-Cooper with Bill from Showboat. Mike Caslin does a nice job on Stars from Les Miserables.
Choir president Noel Cooper, Dave Brent and Bill Flavell lightened the mood with a humorous – yet very good – take as the three sisters from Fiddler on the Roof.
Dorothy Reynolds and Marina Hoekstr were perfectly pitched for Fernando from Mama Mia! And Jim Lynch did a nice job on Everyting’s Coming Up Roses from Gypsy.
Overall, it was a nice, colourful (great shirts, guys and dolls) entertaining show with lots of well-known hits.
It runs agains at 2 p.m. at the legion. Tickets $20 at the door.
A nice way and a great place to take dad for a few hours on Father’s Day afternoon.
The choir is off for the summer now and resumes its Tuesday practices at the Baptist church the first Tuesday after Labour from 3:30 to 5:30. New choir member always welcome – “without audition,” says president Cooper.
