Gravenhurst Public School band being formed ~ info night Thursday June 19
GRAVENHURST — Everyone knows music keeps your brain sharp.
Look how smart the Gravenhurst Bifocals Band members are— and how much fun they have playing.
Many didn’t pick up a trumpet or trombone until they were late in life. Or returned to playing after retiring.
Now, they want to return the favour by helping Gravenhurst Public School form a free after-school concert band with brass and woodwinds.
Imagine your son or daughter tooting their own horn or blowing a tuba.
Under the baton of GHS music teacher Leanne Edwards, they are holding a public meeting for interested parents and students Thursday, June, 19 at the Gravenhurst High School Music Room at 7 p.m.
Come one, come all to hear about the band plans — and bring your student along.
The band class would be for an hour once a week after 3 p.m. starting this fall at Gravenhurst High School.
It will include a spring report to the community band concert.
Edwards will provide the music, instruction and some larger musical instruments.
She says others could be rented for a nominal amount.
The Bifocals Band members are offering to help with financial assistance for the band and some initial moral support.
Many families in Gravenhurst already have band students studying music at GHS; or know a friend in the Beechgrove Public School band program in town, so this is a great chance for everyone to share in the fun and commraderie and learning of concert band.
Drop by and have listen - and let your kid bang a drum or blow a horn. It’ll be fun.
See you there.
