New farmers’ market in opens Uptown Gravenhurst Wednesdays
GRAVENHURST — An alternative independent farmers’ market has sprouted in Uptown Gravenhurst.
The Muskoka Market ~ ‘Truly Local’ is open Wednesdays in the Heritage Square, in front of the Opera House and beside the Op on Sharpe Street.
They had their grand opening June 25.
Almost 20 vendors had their tents out on a wet but warm day, offering a wide array homemade soaps, honey, tye-dyed shirts, spiral glass, cutting boards, face painting, home-made ice cream, pastries and baked goods, preserves and pickle, maple syrup, knitting, chocolates, butter tarts, jewelry and hand-felted scarves among the items for sale.
Sue Barker, who grew up in downtown Gravenhurst and whose father Orval had a Cardinal hardware store and Heritage Men’s clothing store on the main street, just down the street by the public school loves it.
She said she comes down the Wharf market Wednesday and is glad to have something like this here again to bring more people to the town’s original heritage Muskoka Road shopping district.
