Counterfeit American cash leads to charges against Orillia woman and partner

ORILLIA An Orillia woman and her Toronto partner have been charged with possession of counterfeit U.S. currency after a number of reports of phony cash being passed in the Orillia area last month.

The Orillia OPP say received reports from local businesses in which counterfeit American money was being used to make purchases in July.

The Orillia OPP Crime Unit assisted with the investigations. Several witnesses are involved and with their assistance and video evidence, police were able to identify the two people responsible. 

A search warrant was executed at the residence where one of the accused lives. And police located and seized additional counterfeit money in $50 and $100 denominations.

Charged with uttering Counterfeit Money, Possession of Counterfeit Money and Fraud Under $5,000 dollars are:

Jordan Dennis, 27, from Toronto;

and Amanda McCarthy, 24, of Orillia.

They have a court date of September 2, 2014.
