CNE memories: Send us your stories for free tickets contest

The Civic Holiday weekend is the tipping point of summer.

Comedian, movie and TV star Bob Hope was among the huge stars who played the free Bandshell stage in the 1960s and '70s. Did you see him? Let us know.

And when the CNE starts Aug. 15, that means it’s pretty well over.

Who remembers Stan Taylor handing out free little blue or yellow school passes at the end of June to go to the Ex?

Or the great Grandstand and Band Shell shows with Bob Hope and The Three Stooges?

Who can forget all the free food samples at the Food Building, the future gizmos in the Better Living Building or the Shell Tower where you met if you got lost?

And, of course, the fabulous Midway – with the roller coasters and games and sideshows.

It was a feast for all – especially those living in the country who looked forward to a long day of fun and Ex-citement.

Tell us about your memories of the Ex.

We’ve got $18 general admission passes we’re giving away to readers with the best stories (about 150 words), some of which we will post.

Send your memories – and/or photos (jpegs) – to events@muskokatodaily.com

And send us your name, phone number or email address.
