Gravenhurst driver charged with impaired after fleeing Bracebridge crash

BRACEBRIDGE — A driver who hit a guard rail and fled Wednesday afternoon was tracked down by police, arrested and charged with impaired driving.

Police say that at approximately 3:15 p.m.Aug. 13 Bracebridge OPP attended a single vehicle crash on the Highway 11 Southbound on ramp from Highway118 in Bracebridge.

They say the vehicle crashed into guard rails on the shoulder of the road and the male driver fled on foot.

The Bracebridge OPP, Muskoka Vice, K-9 and the Emergency Response Team (ERT) searched the area.

The male driver was located and arrested for impaired driving after a short search.

John Smith, 23, of Gravenhurst has been charged with:

— Driving with More than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in Blood

— Driving While Ability Impaired- motor vehicle (Alcohol)

— Fail to remain at the scene of the crash

— Driving motor vehicle with unsealed container of liquor

He is to appear in Bracebridge court Aug. 22, 2014, to answer to his charges.
