‘Band Bash’ combines best of BML and Muskoka Concert bands Thursday night at Rene Caisse

BRACEBRIDGE — Some of Muskoka’s best musicians are teaming up to support the BMLSS instrumental music program Thursday night for a free-will concert at the Rene Caisse Theatre, at 7:30 p.m.

bmlss - May 5, 2016Music teacher John Minnis and his students are being joined by Neil Barlow and the Muskoka Concert Band for separate and mixed performances.

Barlow has picked four entertaining pieces from the Concert Band’s repertoire, which all have a nautical theme from their current “Pirates of the North” concerts last Sunday in Huntsville and this Sunday in Gravenhurst: “Sea Songs; A Chesapeake Bay Adventure; Pirates of the Caribbean; and Russian Sailor’s Dance.”

Then the BML band take over with five power-packed numbers: “Novena; Into the Storm; Vehicle; Star Wars and River Songs.”

As an added bonus, the BMLSS brass and percussion-group will play a Demo Lovato piece called “Confident,”  and arranged by a parent of one of the band members.

Finally, the stage will fill up with both bands for a spectacular and stirring renditions of “Mars (from The Planets) and “Stevie Wonder in Concert.”

This is the second year the two bands have joined forces for a “Community Teaming Through Music.”

Join them to support the local high school music program at BMLSS.
