Ike Kelneck great friend, nature lover will be missed

Dear Editor:

Recently I attended a celebration of life for Ike Kelneck and brought yellow-green roses as a sign of respect besides a sympathy card.

By the time I arrived there was standing-room only.

Ike was well liked and loved by his sons and relatives and friends and class mates from his pre-med classes of days gone by and fellow Rotarians.

Those who spoke, both men and women had a hard time to keep things together, understandably so.

Ike was was very health conscious. I considered him to be a colleague when we discussed medical topics and nature. I would report to him on animal and bird sightings. My last email to him on April 19 was about the beaver tracks I had seen in the snow.

I met Ike and his dear wife Alice shortly after I moved up here some 17 years ago, when I was still practising real estate in Toronto. Ike showed me their house that he was very proud of and Alice gave me some eggs to take home.

In my mind I have a picture of Ike landing at the pearly gates where my dog Ininiwin greets him and says “Come on in Ike. Alice, you and I can have some fun playing Frisbee. She’s been waiting for you.”
