Possible tornado being tracked in Central Ontario Saturday night. ‘Remember – when thunder roars, go indoors!’

CENTRAL ONTARIOEnvironment Canada says its meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm Saturday night that is possibly producing a tornado through parts of Central Ontario.

And residents in the area are urged to take cover if the weather gets worse in your region.

They say in an update at 9:40 p.m. on their website — and aired in TV interruptions earlier — that damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible.

Doppler radar, they say, indicates a potential tornado east of Barrie and another potential tornado near Furnace Falls. Both thunderstorms are heading eastward at 40 km/h.

Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.

Environment Canada says tornado warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are producing tornadoes.

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.
