Orillia man charged after social media outlets report child sex abuse uploaded to internet

ORILLIA An Orillia man faces child pornography charges after police received multiple reports from various social media outlets that an unknown person was uploading images of child sexual abuse to the internet.

Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Child Sexual Exploitation Unit, Technological Crime Unit and the Orillia Detachment arrested and charged an him on  June 29th, 2017, when they executed a search warrant at an Orillia residence.

As a result of this investigation, a computer system was seized which contained images of child sexual abuse.

Police arrested Matthew Joseph Briggs, 21, of Orillia, Ontario.

He is charged with three counts of Possession of Child Pornography and two count of Making Available Child Pornography.

The accused will appear in court on July 18th, 2017 in Orillia, Ontario at the Ontario Court of Justice.

The investigation is continuing.
