Man crushed to death trying to stop runaway truck near Port Carling Saturday

PORT CARLING  – A tragic accident has claimed the life of a man trying to stop a runaway truck Saturday morning near Port Carling.

Emergency crews found a black pickup truck on Todholm Drive at 10 a.m. July 15.

Police believe it was left in drive or neutral and it started to roll down an embankment and the driver tried to jump in and stop as it headed went down a  slight decline, hitting the tree.

The man became trapped as the truck hit the tree and he became wedged by the vehicle.

Neighbours tried to free the man, but were unable.

His body was freed with the use of a tow truck.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

An OPP investigation is underway and foul play is not suspected. The Coroner is also investigating.

The man’s name has not been released.

He is the second fatality of the weekend. A motorcyclist died in West Gravenhurst in a collision with a minivan at 6 p.m. July 17.
